“Impact Investment” in the Caribbean A Special Event Featuring Michael Lee-Chin and the Rockefeller Foundation at the “International Forum on Caribbean Investment and Development”

Washington, DC

Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) is pleased to announce that special focus will be put on the potential for Impact Investment in the Caribbean on June 9, 2011, during the “International Forum on Caribbean Investment and Development,” (IFCID).  The IFCID, co-hosted by CCAA and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will take place at the Enrique V. Iglesias Conference Center of the IDB, in Washington, DC, on June 9 & 10, 2011.

Investor/philanthropist Mr. Michael Lee-Chin will be the leading private sector presenter during the two-day event, delivering a keynote address at lunch on June 9. Of Jamaican heritage, Mr. Lee-Chin has been at the forefront of promoting impact investment – a formula for creating profitable investments while addressing social and environmental challenges – in the countries of the region. The Caribbean is seen as particularly suitable for the Impact Investment model and its emphasis on positive social and environmental impacts alongside financial returns.  It is estimated that the asset class will be an $800 billion industry within the next ten years, and Impact Investors and Caribbean businesses will mutually benefit from exploring how the investment model will be applied to the Caribbean. Preceding his address, a panel discussion featuring the Global Impact Investing Network, moderated by Antony Bugg-Levine of the Rockefeller Foundation, will bring together leading investors to discuss their experiences with Impact Investment and the development that can be generated by bringing market-based solutions to the region’s most pressing challenges.

The IFCID will combine a dynamic, interactive agenda with an unparalleled opportunity to meet with some of the key business, financial, and policy leaders who are working in or with the Caribbean. Panels will primarily be moderator-driven question-and-answer sessions, and registered participants will be invited to submit questions for consideration prior to the event as well as having the opportunity to take part in the discussions on-site. There will also be networking events and a much-anticipated matchmaking component that will allow for more formal meetings among attendees.
